My diy mouth wash..

I have a very cool and simple recipe for mouth wash today, I made this last week and its really effective and leaves your mouth nice and fresh..
The store bought kind is full of color and chemicals.

Mouthwash and Oral Cancer

  • A scientific study, conducted in Australia in 2009, found a link between oral cancer and mouthwashes containing alcohol. The review was published in the Dental Journal of Australia and called for all alcohol mouthwashes to be removed from shop shelves. The act of holding alcohol in your mouth for a prolonged time while you use mouthwash is thought to allow carcinogens to enter the mouth lining. The review said using alcohol mouthwash on a daily basis is a "significant risk factor" for developing oral cancers. A by-product of alcohol, acetaldehyde, is also believed to be cancer causing and may accumulate in the oral cavity when swished around the mouth.

Mouthwash and Children

  • Mouthwash has also been criticized for putting children in danger. Mouthwashes often have an alcohol content as high as 25 percent, yet it is a product often used by children. Child mouthwashes are often marketed in bright bottles with fragrances, so there is concern children will drink the liquid. A young person consuming an alcoholic substance that strong is potentially harmful and should be avoided.

What you will need:
  • Vodka
  • Water
  • Cinnamon
  • Nutmeg
  • Spearmint essential oils
  • Jar with a lid.
  • Hydrogen peroxide
So you take half a cup of vodka and poor it in your jar them poor one cup of water on top, them add half a tsp of cinnamon and half of nutmeg. Add 15 drops of spearmint and 1/4 of tsp peroxide. Shake well and store in your bathroom. Shake before every use .
What you do:
In one cup poor a little bit of the mouth wash solution and fill the rest with water.. About 2 tbsp would be enough, try it out and adjust the amount to fit your taste preference ..

Why use nutmeg:
Because of its antibacterial properties, nutmeg can also effectively treat halitosis or bad breath. Asyou probably know, bad breath is usually caused by a build-up of bacteria in your mouth. Nutmeg can rid your mouth of these bacteria. This is the reason why nutmeg is a common ingredient in many brands of toothpastes. Nutmeg can also be used to treat gum problems and toothaches.

Why use cinnamon :Recent research conducted in New Zealand demonstrated that theessential oil of cinnamon has the greatest antimicrobial potencyagainst Streptococcus mutans, the bacteria
responsible for tooth decay, and Lactobacillus plantarum, one of the bacteria responsible in gum disease.  The research study concluded “that there may be a role for essentials oils in the development of novel anticaries (anti cavity) treatments”.

Whole wheat healthy pan cakes..

Sundays I usually make the kids pan cakes for breakfast and they look forward to it so much , it's a treat and one of our rituals that we do . We don't eat white flour or cows milk and we stay away from white processed sugar.
So I will share our recipe with you today:

  1. 2 cups whole wheat flour
  2. 2 tbsp  dark brown sugar of honey
  3. I cup goats milk( could substitute with coconut)
  4. Half a cup of butter or I use coconut oil too.
  5. 1 large organic egg.
  6. 1 tsp of baking soda
  7. A pinch of salt
1.So if you are using butter melt it in a pan and whisk it with the sugar and the butter if you are using coconut oil and its not solidified  just whisk the egg and sugar directly in and the honey or sugar.
2. Sift the flour , this gets rid of any lumps and make the pan cakes lighter and fluffier
3.Add the baking soda to the flour and mix in the butter egg mixture along with the milk.
In a pan put 2 tbsp of olive oil and heat it up on medium heat, scoop some of the batter with a soup utensil and flip it around until its golden brown..
We have ours with home made strawberry jam or honey and in seasonal fruit. We love strawberries ,cherries ,bananas are always included in our pancakes , peaches and any yummy fruit. You could add some organic raisins or dry fruit.

Natural sun screen..

Today we're going to talk about the sun and how to protect your skin, well I don't use sunscreen it is just too heavy and chemically for my skin and I always get blocked pores and spots. So I haven't used it in a long  time and i haven't used it on the kids either, what I do use  on our skin is pure virgin raw organic coconut oil and it works great.. I will have a link for a home made sun screen below that I will try my self soon ,
So far we haven't got sun burned and vitamin D is very important to our body so why block it out , try sitting in shady areas instead of the burning sun if your going to be out at the beach for a long time and wear a hat. I keep kids in there swimming tees and baseball hats.

This is the link for home made sun screen , you could get the oils and butters from your health store and the zinc oxide from the pharmacy . If you have a regular one that you go to you could tell them to bring it for you, that is what I do with other stuff that I need to.

According to the Environmental Working Group (EWG) approximately 75% of commercial sunscreens contain toxic chemicals that are linked to cancer and disrupt hormones.

Store bought sunscreens typically contain:

– Retinyl palmitate, a known skin cancer hazard.

– Oxybenzone, which disrupts hormones leading to cell damage and cancer. Those and other chemicals rubbed on your skin are readily absorbed into your bloodstream and can be just as

unhealthy and toxic as an oral dose.

The Sun Protection Factor (SPF) Hoax

An excerpt from a 2012 CNN article about sunscreens:

– Zinc and titanium nanoparticles are in colorless sun screen lotions.

Those and other chemicals rubbed on your skin are readily absorbed into your bloodstream and can be just as unhealthy and toxic as an oral dose.

Now coconut oil on its own is goo too.
Bruce Fife, ND, author of Coconut Cures: Preventing and Treating Common Health Problems with Coconut Oil, explains that coconut oil applied on the skin protects against sunburn and cancer. Unlike sunscreen, unprocessed coconut oil doesn’t completely block the UVB rays that are necessary for vitamin D synthesis. It protects the skin and underlying tissues from damage excessive exposure can cause. Instead of burning or turning red, it produces a light tan, depending on the length of time you spend in the sun.

Fife asserts that “Consuming coconut oil also strengthens the skin and makes it more resilient and less prone to sunburn.” He warns against using hydrolyzed or processed oil. Just make sure the coconut oil is pure and not processed.

Bathroom cleaner..DiY

This is a diy bathroom cleaner made with natural ingredients that you have at home already. It does the same work as jiff white cream but with out all the chemicals and its cheaper too.
So you will need :

The queens guard..

The bottle queens guard man:-)
Well this was fun to make with the kids, this was made when we got back from a holiday in the UK , we had a fabric softener bottle ,back when we use to use store bought:-) and I thought it would be cool to make him in to a Royal Guard..
We covered the bottle with paper tape this insures a smooth finish when the painting process comes and from  an old paper shop bag we covered the top of the bottle, we puffed it up a bit and hot glued it. Then the kids painted it with some acrylic paints. I helped out with the face details and we used gold paint for the details on his costume..
We left him to dry and that was it.. Kids loved him. You could use pon pons for buttons or use the handle of the bottle to make his riffle ..its a good idea to use up any bottles that you have, reusing and creating..
Have a fun weekend..

Clay pot gum ball machine

Today I will show you and tell you how to make a clay pot gum ball machine, this is really good as a gift for any occasion and as a party favor.
I made these for my sons 3rd birthday party and gave them out as party favors. You could make them any color you wish to fit your theme and holiday.
So what you will need is :

  1. Clay pot
  2. Clay plate
  3. Spray paints
  4. Hot glue gun( any super strong glue will do)
  5. Wooden beads
  6. Bottle tops
  7. Candy
  8. Round jar( like a fish bowl)
So first spray paint your pot and plate in the desired color with spray paint and set out to dry over night. That helps the smell of paint go way too. Make sure you lay some news paper on the ground so you don't get paint everywhere and so this out doors.
Then spray yout big round beads and bottle tops if using and lay them to dry also.
When everything has dried very well turn the pot upside down and glue the jar on the pot. The bottom part of the pot( see photos)
Them glue on your one bead on the top of the plate with the plate up side down. This will be the top of the gum ball machine. And the bead will be the handle, if you get what I meen. The bottle tops will serve for the opening of the machine were the sweets fall out, in this case just a decorative piece.
And that's it, you could print a gift card or a thank you note and string it around, and fill it with nice candy.
Good sweet luck!!!
